I’m not friends with whoever decided to move the Battle for the Fremont Cannon from 7 p.m. to 1 p.m.
While trying to cut down on the drinking hours was probably a good idea, all that meant for me was waking up before dawn to sit in a parking lot drinking beer and wanting a sweater.
On […]

You’re welcome, Rebel Yell.
Your coverage of the Battle for the Fremont Cannon the last three years has either ripped off one of my columns or stolen our reporting, so I’m glad The Nevada Sagebrush, the student newspaper at The University of Nevada – the state’s official land-grant institution – has been able to provide you […]

I am a hypocrite.
I am an outspoken opponent of the “F-bomb the Rebels” chant – because it lacks the creativity and originality worthy of Nevada’s finest institution (that means “place of learning” for the monosyllabic Rebels fans out there) – but I have nothing better to offer as a replacement.
So I’m in search of a […]

Students will be allowed those cuddly “FUNLV” t-shirts on Saturday, although the administration did discuss removing them.
Couple that with the new beer policies and the afternoon game time, to cut down on pregame drinking (they underestimate us so),  and it’s pretty clear the administration is trying to avoid past violence like this.
This is a good […]

Apparently yesterday was the worst day of the year to be sick and in bed.
I knew UNLV tickets were going on sale, but figured I could grab one in the afternoon. The people waiting in line before dawn and mob extending out of the JTSU thought otherwise.
Mackay Stadium figures to be rocking on Saturday with […]

 UNLV week is finally here.
It’s been sweet reveling in the Wolf Pack’s 31-3 win in Vegas last season, but now it’s time to put that to rest and focus on this year’s matchup.
The Wolf Pack is again the better football team, although the teams are more comparable than most Northern Nevadans would care to admit.
Both […]

Louisville was a sleeper to win the national championship entering the season, and there was an awful lot to like about the Cardinals - namely quarterback Brian Brohm and a speedy group of receivers.
After losing two straight games - Syracuse? - the Cardinals have generously proved an important point - it doesn’t matter how many […]

Just checked the athletics Web site, and the Nevada men’s basketball schedule for this season is posted.
Media relations director Rhonda Lundin wrote in an email that the Pack is still looking for one more game to finish the schedule. There are currently 14 road games and 15 home games.
Other than the home-away discrepancy, the schedule […]

Nick Graziano has a serious hose.
The biggest deficiency in coach Chris Ault’s pistol offense the last few years was the lack of big plays in the passing game.
Well, after watching Graziano vertically assault Nicholls State in a near criminal manner on Saturday, it’s clear that Ault hasn’t put the “Air Wolf” days entirely to rest.
It […]

The Nevada football team doesn’t deserve any criticism for scheduling Nicholls State, a Football Championship Subdivision (more concisely known as Division I-AA) team.
For starters, the BCS big boys have made scheduling FCS teams about as trendy as the iPhone. Even Hawaii scheduled enough FCS opponents this season to technically qualify for the Big Sky championship […]
