The Terri Patraw situation doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon.
Patraw said on Wednesday that she and her lawyer have “exchanged correspondence” with the university. She also said that she and her lawyer will arrange an informative press conference as quickly as possible to discuss the circumstances surrounding her leaving the program (she was either fired, let go, or resigned depending on who tells the story).
Cary Groth, Nevada director of athletics, fired Patraw just three days before the Wolf Pack started its season against Oregon last Friday (the Wolf Pack lost both its games last weekend).
Last season Patraw led the Wolf Pack to its first WAC championship and NCAA tournament appearance last season.
Right or wrong, Groth needs to explain her decision and hasn’t. Maybe the typically outspoken Patraw’s press conference will force Groth into an explanation.
It’s still too early to determine where the blame lies in this situation, but coaches in the wrong usually don’t hire lawyers to try to get their jobs back. They sign a resignation letter and leave as quietly as possible.
That’s certainly not the case here.
