Just checked the athletics Web site, and the Nevada men’s basketball schedule for this season is posted.
Media relations director Rhonda Lundin wrote in an email that the Pack is still looking for one more game to finish the schedule. There are currently 14 road games and 15 home games.
Other than the home-away discrepancy, the schedule looks like an improvement over last year’s. It’s very similar, actually, except for North Carolina is a much better opponent than Gonzaga (sans Josh Heytvelt) and Cal will be really good if star center DeVon Hardin can stay healthy.
Santa Clara, Northern Iowa, UNLV, and Central Florida (two games) are solid opponents. Nevada’s RPI won’t be hurt as badly as it was last year.
The question is whether the Wolf Pack will find enough wins for the RPI to matter. Replacing four starters, not to mention the best player in program history, will be a real challenge. There’s a lot of talent on the roster, but there’s nobody to run the point outside of freshman Armon Johnson.
Coach Mark Fox has a great track record for producing big improvements between players’ freshman and sophomore years, so this season should be interesting.
