Blue Cannon love

Drive safe Rebels, and be sure to spend the eight hours thinking about that fresh coat of silver and blue paint the Fremont Cannon will be getting this way. After spending so much time in Cashell Field House, it’s in need of a touch up.

Saturday’s game was boring for about three quarters before the redemptive final minutes, but it’s pretty clear the level of football at both programs is rising.

The spread option is a tough matchup. The mutiple option looks can really create some problems. The Wolf Pack did a great job of keeping assignments and slowing it down.

The Wolf Pack’s offense is explosive - quarterback Nick Graziano completed three pass plays of more than 40 yards - but inconsistent.

Graziano’s touch in the short passing game needs to improve and some aspects of the play action game - namely the designed rollouts - may need to be revised. For the Wolf Pack to compete for a conference championship, the offense can’t just rely on the long ball.

On the whole, however, beating the Rebels is always a satisfying win for the Wolf Pack.

- Being a student - and having enjoyed victories over the Rebels in my junior and both of my senior years - winning the game has great meaning.

I’m not sure when that youthful enthusiasm officially goes over the line, but the Wolf pack student section approached it on Saturday.

When the student section rushed the field after the win, the mob quickly made its way to the UNLV section for a taunting session.

The move wasn’t exactly classy, but it didn’t get particularly violent from what I saw.

Given Mackay’s newfound electricity and the 25,000 fans in attendance Saturday, and I say the students deserve a bit of a break.
