Recruiting gains

According to Rivals.com, the Wolf Pack landed its second verbal of the year on Wednesday with the commitment of Texas guard London “Cotton” Giles. Giles was a no-star recruit on Rivals, but was getting attention from USC, Kansas, Texas A&M, and Oregon, according to Rivals.

What’s that mean? Giles can probably play.

Nevada men’s basketball coach Mark Fox is finally starting to see his team’s recent success pay off in recruiting.

This summer the Wolf Pack nabbed Galena High forward and potential McDonald’s All-American Luke Babbitt, a five-star prospect by Scout.com.

Babbitt, a pure scoring big man with a smooth outside jumper (remind you of anyone?), decommitted from Ohio State before deciding to stay home. At No. 18 on ESPN.com’s top 100 list, Babbitt is easily Nevada’s highest profile recruit.

The Wolf Pack is also the front-runner for Washington shooting guard Mark McLaughlin, a four-star top 100 prospect on Scout.com who decommitted from Washington State earlier this year. He would be the second highest profile recruit, other than Babbitt, in recent memory.

Wolf Pack fans will have a nervous wait while McLaughlin takes visits to Illinois and Oregon before making a decision, but this class is shaping up to be one of the nation’s best.
Fox has already established a reputation as finding quality talent, but now he’s competing for the upper-echelon players.

Recruiting this caliber of player gives the Wolf Pack a chance to compete with college basketball’s elite for years to come.
