Scouthoops.com reports that four-star shooting guard Mark McLaughlin has given a verbal committment to Nevada.
The Wolf Pack now has verbals from two Top 100 recruits this season. Five-star power forward and Scouthoops.com’s No. 19 prospect Luke Babbitt committed this summer.
McLaughlin is rated No. 77 overall.
Babbitt and McLaughlin are pssibly the Wolf Pack’s highest-rated prospects of all time.
Both prospects originally committed to BCS conference schools - Babbitt to Ohio State and McLaughlin to Washington State. There are two ways to interpret that:
1. That both Babbitt and McLaughlin chose the Wolf Pack over so-called “big-time” programs shows the Wolf Pack has emerged as major program.
2. The circumstances are also worth a raised eyebrow. There’s no evidence or reason to suggest these gets weren’t square - McLaughlin supposedly made a rushed decision that he immediately regretted and Babbitt, of Galena High, wanted to stay closer to home - but it’s at a bit fishy that two highly rated recruits would back out of their original commits in favor of a less prestigous program.
Either way, this has to be the most exciting recruiting class in Wolf Pack basketball history. Earlier this week the Wolf Pack received a verbal from London “Cotton” Giles, who was getting attention from Oregon, Kansas, and USC, according to Rivals.com.
Looks like coach Mark Fox has three more high-quality players to add to an already talented corps. of young players.
